My eyes meander and survey the dark.
My mind fervently contrives unease.
I can hear the cries of loved ones mourning,
As well as the rhythmic grating of shovels
As they throw the dirt atop my coffin.

I would rather suffer nightmares for the rest of my life
Than to be detained until every fear comes to light.
I would gladly favor ignorance and walk among flames
Than to tremble in the shadows forever awake.

If the thoughts that infest my cognizance
Come to fruition and scourge unrestrained–
If my ceaseless reckoning of chaos
Does in fact become reality–
Should I really fear the end of this plight?

I have witnessed everything dear depart life countless times.
In an infinite loop of my mind
I anticipate these prophecies again visualized.
As I lie there timorously I strain to close my eyes.
This inexhaustible, insufferable strife
Has syphoned the elation and the joy that is pretending to die.

Until a brand new light.
It won't be long now for my spirit to decide
